So I went out last week and bought some new supplies! Charcoal, white pencils and a grey drawing pad – very exciting to get new art supplies! I haven’t used charcoal in a long time and I’m loving it way more than pencils. You can get some really rich blacks. Here’s a look at last weeks sketches posted on Instagram!

Sketch of Coon dog - by Lisa Acciai Sunday morning Father’s Day sketch ( still using the pencil) was of this coon dog -seemed an appropriate dog for the occasion. The inspiration came from stalking my friends FB page (I did get permission :) . She takes lovely photos and this one was no exception. Fortunately, she is also allowing me to make a painting of this dog, because this sketch doesn’t do the photo justice – what I love about the photo is the yellow/green background against the white and black dog. So look for a painting of this dog in the coming weeks!

Sketch of Chocolate Lab - by Lisa AcciaiMonday’s sketch (still in pencil) is of this cute chocolate lab. He will also be in a future painting. I was commissioned to paint him and what better way to get familiar with the features of the dog than to do a sketch first.

Sketch of Matthew - by Lisa AcciaiOn to the charcoal! Tuesday’s sketch was my first attempt at using the new charcoal – not too bad – could use some improvement, though. And what better subject to start with than with my youngest son Matthew when he was about 5 –  I think. So sweet and innocent!

Sketch of Lucas - by Lisa AcciaiSo this is Lucas! I have no idea who Lucas is :) but, he reminded me of my boys. Anyway, you may be wondering why I chose to draw a stranger? Well, every two weeks there is a #drawingstrangers contest on Instagram by @complex where they post a model and ask people to submit a drawing or painting of the model for a possible feature. I thought this would be a good way to improve my skills so this sketch was my entry!

Sketch of lion - by Lisa AcciaiI didn’t have a lot of time on Thursday so I did a quick sketch of this pretty lion. Once again doing some FB stalking – need to probably stop that! A friend of mine who went to South Africa took this great photo of a beautiful lion. I think this one would make a great painting also – may have to gift this one to my friend!

Sketch of Tabby - by Lisa AcciaiIt’s Tabby for Friday’s sketch! I like the way this one turned out. Tabby is my sister-in-laws cat who never poses nicely for pictures but, she did just this once, so I thought she deserved a sketch for that pretty pose!

Sketch of Muffin - by Lisa AcciaiIt’s Muffin on Saturday! While my parents are off touring Alaska we are dog sitting their dog Muffin. In an effort to show them she is alive and well and hasn’t been eaten by our dog Lady or passed out in fright over the thunder, I did this sketch!

Sketch of Chula - by Lisa AcciaiSunday’s sketch is one of my favorite little dogs, Chula! The reference photo was taken on a girls weekend trip to the beach this past winter. Chula joined us as one of the girls :)

Sketch of Snickers - by Lisa AcciaiSo we’re back around to Monday and this pin up girl is Snickers! My good friend Clare sent this pic to me of her diva dog, Snickers and i mean that in the best way – i love that little dog and miss her and her family ever since they moved away!
